Avengers: This is a movie that Marvel studios has been building up to since Iron man in 2008. Bringing all the Big stars from Iron man, Iron man 2, Thor and Captain America the First Avenger together for an all action blockbuster, directed by Joss Whedon who is the creator of such classics as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly. The film will follow Thor’s evil brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) as he comes to conquer Earth. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) recruits Iron man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) to fight back.
GI Joe: Retaliation: The sequel to the Rise of Cobra follows the Joes as Cobra takes over the American government and subsequently orders the destruction of GI Joe. Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis along with returning stars Ray Park and Channing Tatum must expose Cobra and save the world. All I can say is 3 names: Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis and Ray Park in one movie together kicking evil’s arse.
Expendables 2: Sly Stallone returns with his squad of action heroes, now backed up with even more muscle. With such big names in one movie it would be a crime for any 80’s action fan to miss it. I really liked the first Expendables as it was more or less an 80’s action movie in a modern era and I felt like I knew all the characters as they played to their already established action hero archetypes. This movie looks like it’s gonna take everything great the first movie had and pump it up on steroids. After the death of one of the Expendables at the hands of some bad guys, Barney Ross (Sly) leads his team to get revenge.
The Dark Knight Rises: The Nolan Batman trilogy comes to an epic close with one of Batman’s deadliest enemies sowing Chaos and Terror in Gotham City, Bane who in the comics “broke the Bat”. This movie looks awesome; it seems like Nolan is concluding his Batman saga on the highest note he can by having the City hate him after the events of the Dark Knight and by bringing in one of Batman’s most infamous and dangerous adversaries to stack the odds against the hero. Introducing Catwoman is an interesting move for this film and I look forward to seeing how her character fits into the story.
Prometheus: Ridley Scott returns to the science fiction genre he helped define in this alleged “Prequel” to Alien. From what I have been able to gather the plot revolves around scientists looking for an advanced alien civilisation and find the Jockey ship. This looks to be the most interesting of all 2012’s releases and could single-handedly redeem the Aliens franchise after Alien 3 and Resurrection ruined everything.
